Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at eric@ericallred.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I offer a wide range of tax and bookkeeping services including but not limited to personal tax preparation, business tax preparation, non-profit tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll and payroll tax filing, 1099 and W-2 filling, sales tax filing, personal property tax filing, tax resolution services, tax planning and advising services, personal finance budgeting, accounts receivable and accounts payable services, and other general compliance filings.

Generally, for most basic personal tax returns for a federal and one state, I start out at a minimum of $300 and go up from there for new clients.  If you have multiple sources of income and/or multiple credits and deductions, I will charge more based on the complexity and the time it takes me to complete the return.  Business tax returns usually start out at about approximately $750 for new clients and go up from there based on complexity and time.  Bookkeeping, payroll, and other filings and consulting work come in all shapes and sizes and so you will need to contact me for a quote.  (some restrictions apply and various discounts are offered on a limited basis through different lead channels)

I accept cash, credit cards, checks(processed as ACH), Apple Pay, Zelle, Venmo, & Affirm.  If you can't pay your bill please contact me for further payment arrangements.

For tax return purposes, all items of income and expense, along with identifying documents.  If you are not sure, just reach out to me.  If you don't have all your tax documents, I can pull those from the IRS website for an additional fee.

I generally file for all states at this time.  I can do City returns also if needed.

Starting in 2026, the unique thing is I can provide both.  You may come to my office in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and either do a document drop off/pick-up or have a sit down appointment with me or you may upload all documents through my secure Dropbox link listed in my email and on the "Useful Links" page of this website.  When I have completed the work, I can easily send that work securely to you.  And although not preferred, snail mail(USPS) works also.

Payment is due when services are rendered.  I generally do not send the work until payment is received.  For some work that is extensive, I might require a deposit or retainer to be paid before proceeding with the work.  For month to month business clients, I generally have different payment terms tailored and setup between the client and myself and are defined in an engagement letter.

I always say the earlier you get me the info, the sooner I can get the completed work to you.  I use a first-in first-out method for most tax preparation.  Generally, two weeks for drop-off/pick-up during tax season.  Out of tax season varies, but generally if I have everything, a couple of days.  Sit-downs that very day are available, but there are extra fees.  However, during busy times around 3/15 and 4/15, things get a little hairy, and unfortunately, that does lead to longer wait times.

Yes.  I have the ability to e-file three years of taxes for the federal government.  States are a different story.  I also have the ability to file further years back, but those are generally always mailed in.

While that is never a good situation, if you can't pay, installment agreements can be setup with the IRS.  If you owe more than $25,000, its a more complicated process but still can be done.

Just call me and we will setup something.  I want to be accommodating as I can.

I get this question a lot and the answer often confuses people, but let me explain.  I am an Enrolled Agent able to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.  I am licensed by the Internal Revenue Service whereas a CPA is licensed by the individual state licensing boards.  My primary focus is on tax preparation, compliance, and resolution as well as other tax filings.  A lot of CPAs are in the same business as I am, and a lot are not.  The ones who don't focus on taxes are auditors and accountants who do high level financial compilations for large businesses.  My main focus is taxes everyday, 24/7.  I live it, and I breath it, and they are my specialty.  Whereas some CPAs branch out into different things, I stay focused on taxes and partnering with everyday Americans and Small Business owners to Maximize their Profits/Earnings and Minimize their taxes.

Do you offer financial planning?

While I can follow and create tax strategies for my clients to save on taxes, I try to leave the future financial planning to certified financial planners and advisors, especially when it comes to setting up other financial instruments. I can collaborate with them, but if you are looking for insights on investments and where you'll be in five years, that is not my area of expertise. However, I can share some valuable tax tips and direct you to a good friend of mine who is a financial advisor and can assist you. Additionally, if you're interested in the automotive industry, I have an automotive e-book that answers frequently asked questions on the subject.
